First of all; the main purpose of
a model is to sell something. It can be clothes, jewelry,
cars, etc.. When most people think of models, the first thing
that comes to mind is a bunch of skinny girls walking on a
runway, some big strong rugged stud or an absolutely flawless
girl on the cover of their favorite magazine. This is,
actually, only a tiny, tiny part of the modeling business. You
don't have to be beautiful, sexy, handsome or skinny to be a
highly paid model. To many people believe that you must be the
above to be a successful model. Lets get this straight. If you
are one of those, that’s great. There is work for you in
fields that focus on those looks. If you are not one of those
then don't worry. There is more work out there for you than
you can imagine.
All sorts of different
companies need different shapes and sizes of models. Some may
need balding, middle aged men or preppy computer nerds while
another may need just an average looking guy/girl or a heavier
plus size model. There is plenty of work out there for every
type of model and most of the times you can be molded into
whatever looks are needed. You don’t have to be sexy or hot to
be a model Honestly, lets face it; some people are more "sexy"
or "hot" than others, in the worlds eyes, but modeling is a
skill that can be learned by anyone. It actually has very
little to do with your appearance. It’s about 70% mental and
30% physical. Remember that agents are looking for people that
give off a certain energy. They want a positive attitude,
confidence and a strong desire to learn and succeed. After
they find that, then they will see what look you have and what
look they can turn you into. The first screening is for your
personality and then for your looks. An agent or scout can
usually tell this within a few seconds. Nearly anyone can be a
model. And now that you know what a model actually is, we can
start you on the track to being one.
Points to remember:
“Anyone can be a model”
It may be easier for some than others. Some people may have
some extra body fat to get rid. And some may need to gain some
extra muscle. Some may have to clear up their skin. You can
alter all these things on your own so there is no excuse for
anyone.
There are only a few things
that you can’t alter. Such as your height, but your height
really does not matter. Don’t be one of those who will not
even try to model because of this myth that you have to be
“tall” to model. It is not true! A lot of our female models
are actually shorter than 5 feet 9 inches. As a matter of fact
there are four girls from Brazil who are all less than 5 feet
7 inches, but all get lots of work, lots of money and get to
travel all around the world. Even Kate Moss, Calvin Klein’s
top female model, is only 5 feet 6 inches!
“You don't have to be
beautiful, sexy, handsome or skinny to be a highly paid model”
Maybe 10 years ago this was true. Now the truth is, that it
has never been easier to be a model than right now. Even the
most different looking people can get so much work. People
that you would never expect were models are raking in tens of
thousands of dollars every month. We have seen some of the
ugliest people (just our opinion) get the biggest jobs
possible. And make over $1 000 000.00 for the campaign of some
big company. Of course we have also seen some extremely
beautiful people get a lot of work and make millions. It all
depends on what the client wants. You have to realize they
want you to stop and look at their ads or clothes. The way to
do that is by having a model that you just can’t stop looking
at. They are either so beautiful or so different that you
can’t stop looking at them. Makes sense doesn’t it?
